Now that we’re headed into fall, I am looking for recipes that are warm and comforting, yet easy on the budget – and that means beans.
The Everything Beans Book by Katie Kimball at Kitchen Stewardship gives me 30 frugal, nutrient-dense recipes featuring all kinds of beans in everything from appetizers to wraps – and even a dessert.
Katie’s recipes always include the triple-whopper of being nourishing, tasting great, and keeping prep and clean-up simple.

More than Frugal, Nutrient-Dense Recipes
If you’ve been intimidated to try cooking with dry beans – this book will show you how.
If you have been wondering what to do with your picky eaters – this book will help you.
If you have been wanting to know how to store beans in bulk – you need this book.
Want to know how to avoid gas? Get past the texture? And just why are beans healthy, anyways? Read The Everything Beans Book.
Katie Kimball provides tips and substitution ideas for each recipe, giving you a selection of 100 different recipes to make. That’s a lot of options!
Why Beans?
They are not only easy on the budget, they are healthy, too.
Beans are packed with protein, fiber, iron, zinc, B vitamins, folic acid, magnesium, copper, antioxidants, and Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
They improve health by lowering LDL cholesterol, reducing risk of heart disease, reducing constipation, reducing risk of cancer, and more…

Special features on the top of each recipe page:
Work Intensity noted by three clocks: 1 clock means it’s simple to make – you can throw it together in under thirty minutes; 3 clocks would indicate a more complicated recipe with lots of steps or pans to dirty.
Kid-friendly icons: 1 check indicates a spicy dish; 3 checks are sure to be a hit with your kids!
Cost dollar signs: 1 dollar sign means the meal is inexpensive and probably under $5 for the whole meal; 3 dollar signs mean the dish has some pricier-than-normal ingredients or because of the huge volume it makes. However, even the most expensive dishes are less expensive than most recipes not containing beans. Beans are frugal!
Timesaver: Included in the recipes is this handy spot where you can save time. One recipe suggests shredding cheese for your freezer before making the recipe, so you won’t have to wash the food processor twice. Good idea!
Added Bonus: Might include another recipe version, or another way to use the recipe.
Substitutions and Frugal Tips: Giving you ideas what to substitute in the recipe, how to speed up prep, or a frugal tip such as freezing small amounts of leftover wine in ice cube trays and using in cooking recipes.
Healthy Upgrade: Often includes soaking instructions if you prefer soaking your rice, along with full instructions.
FAQ’s: Katie gets into your head and asks the questions you might answer: Can the recipe be frozen? Is it too spicy? Can you make it meatless? What to do with the rest of the bag of spinach? And then she answers them.
Handy Indexes
In the back you will find a handy index where you can look up recipes by the type of bean you have on hand, or want to use. You can search for Black Beans, Black-Eyed Peas, Chickpeas (Garbanzo Beans), Lentils, Pinto Beans, Kidney Beans, and White Beans (Great Northern or Cannellini). I am happy to see my most-purchased beans on this list!
There is also an index for Meatless recipes and Gluten Free recipes, as well as a Find Your Food Index for using up items on hand. Katie has thought of everything!
Special Diets
Looking for Gluten-free or Dairy-free recipes? Most recipes are gluten free. Those that aren’t have easy substitutions. Dairy-free recipes are clearly marked and ingredients are easy to replace with dairy-free options.
Kosher? A few recipes contain sausage, but can be replaced with beef or turkey.
See, this “Everything Bean Book” really does give you everything!
And because it’s an ebook, there are links galore to click on for tips, information, recipes, methods, and more…
eBook Tip!
The Everything Beans Book is easy to print. I printed mine and put it in a 3-ring binder, sliding the sheets in page protectors. This is my tip for keeping my recipe books free from food stains.

So great that you’re posting this now, as we’ve had a household reduction in funds and have been thinking of going two nights/week ‘meatless’. I even asked for visitors to my FB page to leave me their suggestions. The Mexican Stuffed Peppers appeal to me right now as we have this bonus crop of peppers suddenly blessing our kitchen.
I am glad the timing worked for you
