  • 100+ Delicious Beyond Organic Recipes

The principles in Live Beyond Organic can be boiled down to two statements:

1. Eat what God created for food.
2. Eat foods in a form that are healthy for the body.

Pretty simple, right?

All of the advice in Live Beyond Organic follows WAP guidelines. Nourishing Traditions is referenced in several sections, and Dr. Price is discussed as one of Rubin’s health legends.

In the Introduction, you’ll learn Jordan’s story – how he healed his “incurable” sickness through this diet of eating God’s foods as God intended.

Part 1, Change Your Diet

Chapter 1 – “Why Beyond Organic” discusses many of Jordan Rubin’s products that he offers through Beyond Organic. He discusses the difference between the USDA’s standards and his own, more aggressive standards that he uses on his own farm (this will be discussed in a future post – stay tuned).

He discusses “Healthy Hydration” in Chapter 2. You’ll learn more about water than you ever thought you needed to know, including why Beyond Organic Reign Mountain Springs Water is supreme, and how SueroViv Cultured Whey Beverage is your best alternative to a sports drink.

Chapter 3 – “Probiotics for Life” is very informative. You will learn about the digestive system, the history of probiotics, and the best cultured foods. Amasai is a GreenFed Cultured Beverage Jordan makes right on his farm. I have tasted the Amasai and find it a deliciously rich and nourishing beverage. I savor every swallow! A handy Top Ten Probiotics finishes off this chapter.

Chapter 4 – “Primary Protein” teaches the benefits of cultured greenfed dairy and grassfed beef. The chapter ends with a list of Top 10 Protein Foods.

“Carbs for Energy” is the topic of Chapter 5. Acknowledging the necessity of carbs for energy, antioxidants, and fiber, the focus is on fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Rubin advises not to make grains and starches a big part of our diets, and ends with a note on sweeteners. The Top 10 Carbohydrate Foods list in the back includes blueberries, flax seeds, chia seeds, and quinoa.

Chapter 6 – “Fats and Oils” discusses the different omega fats and busts the myth that fats aren’t good for you. Rubin lists examples of foods that contain healthy fats and lists coconut oil, palm oils, whole milk dairy from pasture-fed cows, and pastured eggs as sources.

Chapter 7 – “Amazing Antioxidants” where I learned about intracellular antioxidants, or glutathione. Rubin lists antioxidants and the fruits they are found in, as well as the antioxidants in other foods such as pastured dairy, salmon, seaweed and chocolate. As always, he ends with a list of Top 10 Dietary Sources of Antioxidants which includes grapes and cinnamon.

Part 2, Change Your Life

Chapter 8 is all about a “Healthy Body.” From getting enough sun and sleep to resting, hydrotherapy, exercise, and skin care, Rubin covers it all.

Chapter 9 – “Healthy Mind” talks about the power of positive thoughts. Stress-relieving techniques are also included.  You can do it!

“Healthy Spirit” is also important, and discussed in Chapter 10. You’ll read about Jordan’s own spiritual journey. I found very helpful the prayer included – basically speaking positively about your body and its functions. For example, “Every organ and tissue of my body functions in the perfection that God created it to function,” and “My immune system grows stronger day by day. I speak life to my immune system.”

Part 3, Change Your World

This section is a chapter in itself. In it we read the journey of adoption Jordan and his wife Nicki went through – twice – after having their own biological son, Joshua.

Part 4, Start Today

This final chapter, “Live Beyond Organic: Your Daily Plan” begins with a health assessment. Your score determines which health plan you start on: Advanced (Live) Plan, Intermediate (Beyond) Plan, or Lifetime (Organic) Plan.

Each plan includes a 3-day sample diet, as well as a comprehensive list of acceptable foods (as well as what to avoid) broken down into sections.

For example, the Advanced (Live) Plan allows (this is an abbreviated list):

  • Grass-fed meat only in forms of beef, buffalo, veal, etc., but not pig, veggie burgers, or grain-fed beef.
  • Wild-caught fish with scales are acceptable, such as cod, mackerel, and tuna, but no farm-raised fish or shellfish of any kind.
  • Poultry that has been pasture raised is fine, but no fried or breaded chicken, and no lunch meats.
  • Eggs have to be pasture-raised…and real. No egg-beaters.
  • Dairy must be grass fed. Yogurt, raw milk and cheese are good, but no rice or soy milk.
  • Fats and oils that are acceptable: flax seed oil, coconut oil, red palm oil, but no peanut oil, canola oil, or anything hydrogenated.
  • Vegetables have to be organic and fresh or frozen, but no corn or white potatoes.
  • Beans and Legumes have to be organic, and soaked or fermented, but no soy beans, pinto beans or lima beans.
  • Nuts and Seeds and their butters should be organic, raw, soaked and chewed well. Almonds, walnuts and pecans are good, but no peanuts or cashews.
  • Condiments are to be organic. Ketchup, Bragg’s salad dressings, mustard are okay, but no white vinegar or sugar-added choices.
  • Fruits that are acceptable are organic fresh or frozen, and no more than two per day: blueberries, limes, olives, but no oranges, kiwis or dried fruit.
  • Beverages should be cultured, probiotic, herbals teas, or raw vegetable juices (to name a few), but no sodas, fruit juices, or sparkling waters.
  • Honey and coconut sap sugar (small amounts) are the only sweeteners that are acceptable. No stevia, agave or corn syrup.
  • Goat’s milk or sprouted raw protein powder is okay, but no soy or rice protein powder.
  • No grains or starchy carbs acceptable.

The other plans allow for more variety of foods. The Advanced (Live) Plan above is for those with health issues they want resolved in a timely manner.

The chapter wouldn’t be complete without a shopping tips, dining tips, and some food profiles. And recipes? You got ‘em!
