Do you have dinners covered into March? I do!
That’s because I have Back to Basics from Cooking Traditional Foods.
My first post talking about using this 300+ page resource was posted in May. Once I started hitting pumpkin recipes slated for an October menu, I knew I needed to swap over to the Summer Menu (Vol. 3).
Now that summer is over, I am delving back into this wonderful recipe book. I am so glad – I really missed it!
I use Cooking Traditional Foods menus because:
- I want nutritious meals for my family
- I don’t want to spend all day in the kitchen
- I want to serve unprocessed, wholesome foods
The bonuses that come with Back to Basics:
- I don’t have to figure out what’s for dinner.
- I don’t have to plan a shopping list! It’s all done for me.
- Prep lists of when to thaw what keep me on track
- Index in the back makes it easy to find recipe favorites
- I want to use produce that is in season, and as menus are organized from Sept-March, I stay true to season

Cooking Traditional Foods – Week 8
Sweet Potato Chili Lime Soup. This was my favorite soup. Ever. I downed two bowls in no time. It didn’t last longer than two days, and it make a lot! I loved the Apple Butternut Squash soup (was that week 1 or 2?) but this an extremely close second. In fact, I’m not even sure which I love best. I did omit the chili, as it’s not an ingredient the kids are used to. I plan on adding it when I make a second batch – I’m craving it again and I just had it two days ago! The kids weren’t crazy about it until they tried it, and then they love it! Read the full post here →
Cooking Traditional Foods – Week 7
Another great week using Back to Basics by Cooking Traditional Foods.
Doesn’t that photo on the left just make your mouth water? We didn’t even need to use knives when eating Crock-Pot Italian Beef.
My favorite recipes are crock-pot recipes. And I am really glad that there are one or two crock-pot recipes per week. That means I get to be lazy all day as dinner cooks itself!

Cooking Traditional Foods – Week 6
Another great week using Back to Basics by Cooking Traditional Foods.
My sister has been staying with me for the past three weeks, and she is one picky eater. Sorry, Sarah, but you are! That said, she has enjoyed all the meals I have made (okay, so she didn’t eat the fish sticks from last week because I dipped them in mayo before dredging them in flour – told you she was picky!).
I love reviewing what we had the previous week, because I get to re-live all those delicious flavors. Read the full post here →

Cooking Traditional Foods – Week 4
I certainly did not expect my kids to go from being picky to eating EVERYTHING I serve them. WITHOUT complaining! I can’t believe it! I was hoping that by the end of 30 weeks, they would reach that goal. But already? Read the full post here →
