Keep your hair out of your food with beautiful Lilla Rose Flexi Clips (win one!)

Are you tired of finding hair in your food? Or having your hair get in your way just when you started kneading dough?

I have waist-length hair so I make it a habit to put my hair back in a twist with a large claw clip when I am about to make a meal in the kitchen. Finding a long strand of hair in your pizza crust just isn’t very appetizing!

Apart from working in the kitchen, I often pull my hair up in a twist or some sort of a bun in the warmer months – my very long hair just gets too warm when it’s hot and humid out. In fact most winter days I have it back as well, just to get it out of the way.

The only thing I could find to hold all my hair is a large claw clip. But I’d often find myself adjusting it once or twice a day, and if not placed right, I could feel it tugging at my scalp.

And then Paula Miller offered to send me a Lilla Rose Flexi so I could try it out. And boy am I glad she did! Read the full post here →

Organic Heirloom Cornmeal, Popcorn, and Whole Kernel corn from small-scale family farmers

I love their popcorn! Here is a press-release about their non-GMO corn products…

organic heirloom popcorn Tropical Traditions Adds New Line of Organic Corn that is GMO FreeTropical Traditions announced today that they were offering a new line of organic heirloom corn grown by small-scale family farmers in western Wisconsin. These organic heirloom corn products include Pride of the North cornmeal, whole kernel corn, and Lady Finger popcorn.

Organic Corn that is Truly GMO-free

Pride of the North organic heirloom corn and Lady Finger open pollinated organic popcorn is grown on small family farms with buffer zones, ensuring that the places where the corn is planted is not downwind from any other conventional corn fields that may be using genetically modified seeds. Watch the video below from one of the farms to see an example of how this certified organic corn is grown, and how they ensure proper buffer zones are in place to prevent cross contamination from other farms. The extra care they take is far beyond what is required by current USDA organic standards. Current organic standards do not require any special buffer zones for the growing of organic corn, therefore much of the supply of certified organic corn in the U.S. could possibly be contaminated by GMO cross pollination. Breast to Bib – review and giveaway!

You know, there are so many great books out there, and this is definitely one of the best.

Breast to Bib by Kate Tietje is a book I wish I had access to when I was pregnant with my children.

I was honored to be able to review Breast to Bib before it was published. You will find the following quote of mine at the top of the list under “Praise for Breast to Bib:”

Okay, I am in total love with your book. I have never been so happy with a book written about baby foods! I jumped on the “AP” bandwagon eight years ago, and have been immersed in all things AP since. I agree whole-hardheartedly with your breastfeeding advice, when to introduce what foods to toddlers, and your advice about supplements. Your recipes are easy to make and wholesome foods the whole family can enjoy!

You see, it’s not very often you find a gem like this. Read the full post here →

NutraPro Butter Oil review and giveaway!

I am happy to review for you today a high quality product that is super good for you – NutraPro butter oil.

First I want to address the confusion surrounding use of the terms butter oil, ghee, and clarified butter. I admit I, myself, am confused as to what makes the difference between the three, since they seem to all look alike and be essentially the same.

According to NutraPro, who provided me with a jar of their delicious-tasting butter oil, there is a difference between butter oil and ghee/clarified butter, and “it’s in the manufacturing.”

NutraPro Butter Oil is manufactured by extracting it from grass-fed certified organic cream at low temperature and high speed to preserve nutrients, taste, and aroma, leaving a pleasant taste, not a nutty one which indicates high heat was used in manufacturing.

This Natural Alternative to Toothbrushes May Surprise You…

The kind of toothbrush we all have in our bathrooms was invented in 1938. Previously, from about 1498, boar bristles attached to bamboo or bone handles were used.

But what came before that? Answer: The miswak.

I have only been aware of the miswak for a year or so, and it took me this long to finally break down and buy one. Of all the areas in my life I’ve tried to switch to more traditional roots, an alternative to my toothbrush wasn’t a high priority. In fact I liked how my teeth cleaner worked.

And then, like everything else, I researched… Read the full post here →
