There as been a decided atmosphere of essential oils on the blog lately. Pleasant, eh?

Today I am reviewing for you Essentially Clean: Incorporating the Powerful Benefits of Essential Oils Into Your Homemade Natural Cleaning Products by Sandi Queen.

Although Sandi suggests using her own organic essential oil line, Essential Vitality, you can use these recipes with any brand you may already have on hand.

Why Clean With Essential Oils?

I think most of you already know how dangerous commercial cleaning products can be. I chose to ditch the bleach and everything else toxic years ago. Now I clean with e-cloth’s and Dr. Bronner’s soap. I’ve used essential oils in my laundry powder and hand sanitizer for years.

Now that I’ve read Essentially Clean, I am able to expand even more!

Out with the Toxic, in with the Natural

In Essentially Clean you will find alternative recipes to commercial (and often toxic) cleaning products.

Instead of Windex, use Glass Cleaner featuring lemon and lavender EO’s.

Instead of Pledge, use Wood Furniture Polishing Wipes featuring lemon EO.

Instead of Resolve, use Essential Carpet Freshener featuring lavender and peppermint EO’s.

Instead of Drain-O, use the Kitchen Sink Drain Freshener method that features peppermint and tea tree essential oils.

Instead of Soft Scrub, use Essential Sink and Tub Scrub featuring your favorite essential oils.

Instead of Lysol, use Lovely Toilet Bowl Cleaner featuring tea tree and lemon essential oils.

There are also recipes for cleaning your copper, stainless steel appliances, surface mold removal, sticky hair brushes, glass shower doors, toothbrush disinfectant, gum remover, washing machine freshener, and more.

I absolutely love the idea of spraying bedding to control dust mites (one recipe) as well as for enhancing sleep (another recipe). Combine water and essential oils and spray your bedding for a relaxing and soothing slumber. It works!

As if all this isn’t enough, Essentially Clean also includes the following pest-free remedies: ant repellant, mosquito repellant (no DEET!), moth repellant, flea repellant, lice repellant, and rodent repellant. All using essential oils! The strong aromas deter the pests and they will leave you alone without you needing to whip out toxic poisons.
