Okay, so you want to do better with your food choices. But where do you start? Here is a guide of baby steps to help you on that journey from “mainstream” eating to a “stream of health” due to better choices.
Vegetables and Fruit
Mainstream: Buy canned vegetables, fruit in heavy syrup.
Step one: Buy frozen vegetables instead of canned; frozen fruit, switching to light syrup for the fruit you can only find in a can.
Step two: Buy fresh vegetables and fruit when in season. Spray your produce with peroxide, then vinegar (do not combine in one bottle, it is less effective when combine). Rinse well, scrubbing if needed (for instance on the outside of mango skin).
Step three: Stream your veggies, or use in a stir-fry, avoiding using the microwave oven, which destroys more nutrients and vitamins.
Stream of Health, your goal: Focus on consuming the least pesticide-laden produce **insert EWG link here** while avoiding the produce with the most pesticides. If you can afford it, buy local organic produce, especially the fruits and vegetables that contain the most pesticides.
