With all the dry heat in the house, in the car, it’s easy for our skin to dry out. Other than drinking water and staying hydrated from the inside out, there are other things I use directly on my skin to keep it dewy all winter long.
Coconut Oil for Cleansing
I use coconut oil for so many things, and one of them is to cleanse my face.
When you cleanse with water, or even with many soaps, it can leave your skin feeling tight and dry.
To prevent your skin from having that tight, dry feeling after washing, rub some coconut oil on your face and remove using a warm, damp facecloth. You will feel right away how soft your skin is!
Coconut Oil for Moisturizing
Yep, I use coconut oil for moisturizing, too. It leaves a nice, healthy glow. You can use the smallest amount (1/2 tsp?), rub in your hands to change it from semi-solid to oil, and then gently smooth on your face. This works great right after washing your face with coconut oil, and I used this method for years.
Moisturizing Cream
Oh, boy. I had been using straight coconut oil for so long, and although I have really enjoyed the results nothing prepared me for this moisturizing cream!
I tried unscented at first, and it arrived quite cool due to shipping in winter weather. Let me tell you, I about melted into a puddle when I put this cream on. It felt SO cool and creamy, and it looked like I just had a facial. My skin was so succulent, truly, it looked like I had makeup on (foundation). I found a great moisturizer with nourishing ingredients:
Ingredients: purified water, organic virgin coconut oil, plant based emulsifying wax, palm stearic, grapefruit seed extract, organic beeswax, and organic virgin palm oil.
Not being able to resist the sale last week, I bought two more jars…this time citrus for some morning zest, and arnica for sore muscles and aches.
This cream is nice and thick, and you need such a small amount, I am expecting the jar ($12-$14) to last me several months. I love this so much, I have ordered some of their moisturizing lotion as well (it’s on sale).
MadeOn Hard Lotion
Although I use coconut oil as a lotion, I really love my Au Chocolat lotion bar. A wonderful chocolatey aroma - who can resist? Made with three simple ingredients: cocoa butter, coconut oil, and beeswax. A hard bar is much easier to use than lotion, as you can better control the amount used. I find this has longer staying power than plain coconut oil.
So, how do you keep your skin dewy through the winter?
I’d love to know how you keep your skin dewy through the harsh winter cold and dry heat. Leave a comment, I’d love to hear!

I use coconut oil on my face after washing with water, but hadn’t thought of washing with it. My skin was great last winter, but right now I’m doing a gluten challenge and it has really made my skin worse. So I’ve got to say, staying away from the grains helps, too!
I’ve hit the Jack Pot! This info is right down my alley! Thank you so much for sharing. I just recently made my facial scrub using Robin McGraw’s recipes using Oatmeal, Almonds and honey. Thank you for this info and I surely enjoy your website! I will be visiting often.
I appreciate all the natural solutions you offer. I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil to clean my face as well as moisturize. I just put EVOO in a small recycled squeeze bottle and squirt a small amount on a cotton pad to clean my face, and put a small dollop of 100% Aloe Vera Gel and 2 or 3 drops of EVOO in my hand, mix and moisturize my face. I used to have problems with breakouts, but no more since using EVOO.
Sounds like a great solution!
