I prefer using food-grade Extra Virgin Unrefined coconut oil for not just cooking, but putting on my body. What you put on your skin gets absorbed in your body, so why not use the best? Besides, I use so much of it, I buy it in large tubs. So I always have a bunch around.
I prefer Nutvia, and I purchase it from VitaCost. You can also get Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, 54-Ounce Jar
on amazon.
I now prefer Tropical Traditions coconut oil. I explain why in my post: Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil - my new favorite choice.
Refined is okay, but I would limit its use to non-consumption. So it would be okay for a skin moisturizer, but I wouldn’t eat it with a spoon
Here are the ways I use coconut oil on my skin/hair:
- Lotion - I slather it on just like I would lotion, after I get out of the shower.
- Dry heels - this is great for those dry heels you get in the winter
- Cleanser - I rub some on, and wash off, like I would any other cleanser.
- Moisturizer - This is a super moisturizer. After cleansing, I rub some more on and wear all day long. Gives my skin a fresh glow!
- Deodorant - I rub some in. If I need better protection, I powder puff baking soda on top.
- Conditioner - this is the best conditioner! Just rub in the ends. You can use it as a leave-in conditioner, or rinse out.
- Hair shine - great for giving your hair that nice sheen without being oily and greasy.
How about you? How do you use coconut oil?

Thanks for being an educator. I really am glad I found this. I am a believer in natural remedies and product. Trying to make more healthy changes.
I have been making sugar scrub with coconut oil I purchased at the grocery. Since I am using it for a scrub, is it ok to use this? I have purchased Lou-Anna brand.
Oh yes, that would be fine
I used coconut oil once as a overnight leave in conditioner and rinsed it out and the next day my hair was full of static and very flyaway. It is so strange. I use coconut oil for everything and was very surprised by my hair reaction…I wonder why that would happen? Any ideas?
My mom had the same thing happen to her. I am not sure how to explain it! Maybe Tropical Traditions hair oils would work better for you. I use and love them.
p.s. and they are on Special Sale until the 6th!
