Can you see the difference? The Tropical Traditions organic whole grain oats (right) are thicker and heartier. They actually have more iron, calcium, and protein than the brand I’d usually buy.
Not surprised these are superior to my current brand - Tropical Traditions also has the highest quality coconut oil I’ve ever come across (among other things). Read more about their coconut oil here.
These oats are now my favorite. They make awesome granola, Blueberry Crisp, and these Cherry Oatmeal Cookies…
I used the “Best Oatmeal Cookies” recipe on the side of my old oatmeal container. I tweaked the ingredients (swapped the white and brown sugars for sucanat, for example), and added cherries.
Cherry Oatmeal Cookies
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together in stand mixer until creamy:
2. Add:
- 2 eggs
- 2 TBSP milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (or make your own vanilla extract)
Mix until combined.
3. In separate bowl, stir together:
- 2 1/2 cups Tropical Traditions Organic Whole Grain Rolled Oats
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (I grind my own)
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp REAL salt
4. Slowly add oats mixture to sugar mixture until thoroughly combined. Add:
- 2 cups fresh cherries (dried also work)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts
Your dough will look like this:
5. Using a 2″ spring-release scoop (I have a Pampered Chef one, but you can find similar ones, like this one, on amazon)
See what nice, round balls they make? Makes for consistently-sized cookies.
6. Bake in oven 18 minutes or until golden. My cookies were super soft, and therefore didn’t hold their shape well, so maybe I should have taken the original recipe’s advice and refrigerated 1 hour before baking…
They were super delicious!
I really love these oats! And I think you will, too.
