Win Tropical Traditions’ Palm Shortening…

Yeah, I just don’t want to run out of this stuff. As you can see, I stocked up on Tropical Traditions Palm Shortening when they had a recent sale.

I love using non-hydrogenated palm shortening to replace store-bought vegetable shortening in recipes. It’s also the only “fat” I use to fry my foods in. Last year I shared in my post, Oils Safe for Cooking and Frying that coconut oil is not your best choice for frying. Yes, you can use it for stir-fry’s and temps at or below 350°, but actual frying you want to leave up to palm shortening. It can withstand temps up to 450° without turning toxic.

Tropical Traditions is the only brand of palm shortening I purchase. Spectrum palm shortening is only safe up to 350° - same as coconut oil. Tropical Traditions is also the only place I shop for coconut oil. (Read: How to Use Coconut Oil).

I also use this to grease my pans if the oven temp is going to be above 350°. It is tasteless and odorless so it works well.

You can purchase palm shortening for your holiday baking - you will get the same great results as with vegetable shortening - your taste buds won’t tell the difference, but your cells sure will :)

Here are some of my recipes that include palm shortening:

  1. I’d love to try palm shortening! I’ve never used it before so this would be exciting! Also I just found out I have a dairy allergy, so … I’m trying to figure out a butter substitute in my recipes. This might work well! Thanks for the giveaway and a great idea to purchase. :)

  3. I’d love to try this shortening, I just haven’t had the money to order it from here yet. I usually buy Spectrum Organic Palm shortening in the store but they are small containers with large prices!

  4. I made potato rolls for Thanksgiving and had to use vegetable shortening. I would have loved to use this instead. I use shortening occasionally but I would use it more often if I knew it was healthier.

  5. I want to try it because I am looking for alternatives to canola & don’t really like the taste of olive oil. We have been using coconut oil lately.
