I think I may have just found my favorite appliance…
One that cooks perfect rice.
Perfect beans.
Perfect split pea soup.
Yes, I’m talking about VitaClay’s Smart Multicooker!
I have been having so much fun cooking all of the above (and more) in my VitaClay. Since we don’t eat as much pasta, and we do eat more rice and beans than we used to, I just had to get my hands on a VitaClay.
I was tired of the rice boiling over without warning - it makes such a mess! Or not putting enough water in the beans and them drying out, or putting too much and them over-cooking. And since I’ve been using my crock-pot for nearly non-stop broth, I was considering purchasing a second one just so I wouldn’t butt heads with it.
Then my VitaClay arrived and solved those problems…
Now just look at this beautiful basmati rice:
Look again:
Isn’t that just absolutely beautiful? In under an hour I had perfect rice.
Now check out the Split Pea Soup I made:
Shoot, I didn’t take any of the beans. I will make it a point to take a photo next time and show you.

Wow I would totally consider purchasing one of these!!!
Hi Lea,
I’m coming upon your review of the Vitaclay and wonder if you’ve cooked GABA rice (sprouted) and how it came out if you did.
Also, I’m concerned about the negative reviews at Amazon about the company’s customer service. Have you ever had to contact the company and, if so, how did it go?
How did you come to choose this model beyond wanting something other than non-stick? You’re the only blogger I read who has ever recommended this unit. I’ve never used a rice cooker, so I’m hesitant to buy one now. I am very tempted though.
BTW, the water kefir grains you sent me seem to be working ok. They arrived looking like applesauce and still do. I hope I’m doing things right. I use a Fido jar, but the grains haven’t increased in size or number at all. I basically follow your water kefir recipe. Made one batch that was really amazing, and haven’t been able to duplicate it since.
I was able to buy a bottle of vanilla water kefir since I had never tasted water kefir before I made it. Mine seemed to taste similar except, of course, for the vanilla flavor.
Thanks again for the grains and your comments.
Happy New Year,
Gopika
I’ve cooked just about everything, but not GABA rice
I chose this one because it didn’t just cook rice, but was like a second crock pot. I liked the fact that it was clay, and not plastic or non-stick. AND because they sent me one for free to review
I have nothing but wonderful things to say about their customer service. My unit has been used 3 times a week on average since I got it, and last month it started acting off before it stopped working. I contacted them and they replied that they would send me a new one, and I had it in just a few days. So I would say their customer service is wonderful!
As for the kefir grains, e-mail me your addy again and I’ll get more grains out to you when I can. Meantime, they do need to stay warm. Mine wouldn’t double under 70 degrees, they really prefer 75 degrees. I have a heating mat that I use with them now and they are happy
