Some of you may wonder why anyone would make products (such as soap, shampoo, or cleaning supplies) when one could just purchase them in the store. Quite simply, because this way you have control over the ingredients you are absorbing in your skin.
In order for anything to effect our bodies, they need to be consumed, breathed, or absorbed through the skin. Many “beauty” products are absorbed into the skin after application (think lotions, lipstick, etc.). Since the cosmetic industry (which goes beyond just makeup) is not regulated, they are allowed to put whatever ingredients they want in their products to make more sales. Many of these ingredients cause cancer.
The National Cancer Prevention Coalition established a list of twelve common household carcinogens (“The Dirty Dozen”) which include Crest toothpaste, Clairol Nice and Easy hair coloring, Cover Girl makeup, as well as household cleaning products such as Lysol disinfectant and Ajax.
When you make your own skin care and cleaning products, you have full control over the quality of ingredients.
