Reasons to Limit Fructose Consumption

I am not a fan of eating too much fruit. There are a number of reasons why you should not consume too much fructose. Here are some ways your body can be damaged by consuming too much fructose. It can cause:

  • increase risk for diabetes, obesity, and heart disease
  • increase risk for cancer, as cancer thrives on fructose as a source of energy
  • insulin resistance
  • leptin resistance
  • impaired brain function and memory
  • imbalance in appetite regulation
  • damage to the liver
  • excess uric acid production, which can cause kidney stones, hypertension, and gout
  • gut flora imbalances, which promote overgrowth of bad bacteria

So yes, too much fruit is not good for you! Make sure when you eat your fruit, you are eating it whole and aren’t juicing the fruit. You need the fiber in the skins and pulp to help balance the sugars you are consuming.
