Lea’s Applesauce Bake - perfect autumn treat!

We went apple picking and I had to bake a yummy treat! I was too lazy to slice all the apples for Apple Crisp (and I was out of oats!) so I decided to just food process everything and make a new treat.

I used Empire apples for this recipe, but any ol’ apple variety will do!

Lea’s Applesauce Bake Recipe

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

1. Prep a casserole dish by greasing well.

2. In your food processor add the following:

  • 9 small-ish apples (or 6 medium apples), peeled and cored and cut into chunks
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup
  • 2 tsp molasses

3. Process until well blended - it doesn’t have to be too smooth.

4. Place apple mixture in well-greased casserole dish.

5. Now for the topping. Add in your food processor:

  • 1 1/2 cup nuts - I chose walnuts because I like how they taste with apple
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour - I freshly ground mine
  • 3 TBSP butter - I like Kerry Gold
  • 3 TBSP ground cinnamon

6. Process until well blended and there are no large chunks left.

7. This mixture is goopy, so you’ll need to plop small spoonfuls on top of the apple mixture until it’s covered. You can try to smooth out with a spoon, but don’t worry about it too much.

8. Bake 18-20 minutes or until apples are bubbling up and golden.

You can top with home-made whipped cream, but we just ate it as is. Full of flavor and scrum-diddly-umptious!

Lea’s Applesauce Bake - perfect autumn treat! — 5 Comments

  1. This post brings back a great memory for me. When I was a kid, my dad decided to make applesauce. It wasn’t the kind of thing he usually did, but he got really into it. Unfortunately, he tried to put all the apple peels down the disposal at once and he broke it. We had to have a plumber come the next day. The applesauce was amazing — best I’ve ever tasted — but every time we ate it my mom would remind us how expensive it was!
